Microsoft – The Cloud is a Key Component of Xbox’s Future

Yesterday, Sony announced it was set to acquire the cloud-based gaming company Gaikai, allowing the platform holder to stream high-end games to a number of devices, including the PlayStation 3, but how did Microsoft react to this announcement?

As it turns out, pretty well, the company claimed that cloud-based systems are already a key component of Xbox’s future. By the sounds of this, it appears that Microsoft already has something in place to counter Sony’s acquisition of Gaikai, and ensure that it don’t lose ground in the cloud sector.

“The cloud has been a key component of our strategy and a big area of investment with Xbox for many years,” a Microsoft rep told GameIndustry. ”Through Xbox LIVE we’re serving up gaming and entertainment in the cloud to more than 40 million people.”

“We’re committed to delivering extraordinary entertainment experiences across devices in an uniquely connected way through Xbox, Windows Phone, Windows 8 and other popular devices, and we’re looking forward to continuing to innovate in this space in the future,” the rep added.

Would you be happy with a cloud-based future for gaming?
