Microsoft: Xbox One Kinect Incompatible With PC

Posted on June 28, 2013 AT 03:55am

The new Kinect sensor included with the Xbox One will not be compatible with Windows PCs, Microsoft has confirmed.

A new Kinect for Windows will be released in 2014 alongside an official software development kit for PC users. However, unlike the Xbox 360 Kinect, users will be unable to hook the Xbox One Kinect up to their PC.

“The Kinect for Xbox One sensor will not have an adapter that allows it to plug into a computer,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Ars. ”The new generation Kinect for Windows sensor will connect to computers using a standard USB3 port,” unlike the Xbox One version which will connect to the console using a proprietary connection.

“The new generation Kinect for Windows sensor will be a fully tested, licensed, and supported Kinect experience on Windows,” said the rep. “Kinect for Xbox One is being built for and tested with the Xbox One.”
