Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor story trailer highlights wraith protagonist’s identity

Posted on July 28, 2014 AT 01:30pm

On Friday, Warner Bros. and Monolith Productions revealed one of the most important secrets in Middle-earth Shadow of Mordor: the identity of the mysterious Wraith—the “other half” of Talion, a Ranger bent on vengeance against Sauron. The most recent story trailer, “The Bright Lord,” gives some more context to the Wraith’s identity and how it will intersect with the expansive lore of Middle-earth. If you’d prefer to keep that knowledge a secret before you play the game, however, be warned: Substantial spoilers are present in the trailer.

“The Bright Lord” is highlighted by some outstanding voice work from Troy Baker as Talion, Alastair Duncan as the Wraith, along with Liam O’Brien as Gollum doing an amazing job channeling Andy Serkis’ iconic work in the Lord of the Rings films. (In fact, here’s an example of just how good: When I recently met with director of design Michael De Plater, I asked him how they managed to get Serkis himself to reprise the role.)

Last week, Warner Bros. moved up the game’s release date to September 30th, so fans will get a chance to explore all the mysteries of this open-world action-RPG a week earlier than originally anticipated.
