Minecraft Creator ‘Notch’ Still Interested in Funding Psychonauts 2

THE BUZZ: Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson has offered his own opinion on potentially funding Psychonauts 2.
Posting on his personal blog he said that he hadn’t really spoken to Tim Schafer much about the subject, but planned on meeting with him at GDC. However he did point out that ”Double Fine will be very busy for many months with the Kickstarter project.”
He has ”NO idea if this is actually going to happen,” but ”IF the numbers work out and IF they still want to do it and IF they don’t decide to self-fund a sequel by doing more crowd funding,” he would be ”most interested in doing this type of investment.”
Notch also pointed out that he doesn’t want the whole Internet hyping up over this:
“Point is, stop hyping over this, Internet! You’re going to scare me into doing things secretly instead of being open and transparent via twitter. I am incredibly scared of the very real risk of people feeling let down just because I took a chance at something that doesn’t end up panning out.”
EGM’s TAKE: People have been going crazy over the possibility of this cult classic finally getting a much deserved sequel after all these years. Psychonauts gained a major following after it was released for the original Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PC, however a sequel was never commissioned. Now it appears that Schafer is ready to deliver as long as someone can foot the massive bill. It’s going to be a high risk for whoever takes it on, but if fans really want a sequel then they are going to have to convince someone to invest. Maybe they have.
