Minecraft Dungeons, the previously announced spin-off of Mojang’s immensely popular sandbox survival game, will be out on PC and consoles in spring 2020, Microsoft announced during its E3 2019 press conference.
A gameplay trailer showed off our first real look at the game, which appears to meld the blocky environments of Minecraft with simple top-down combat reminiscent of dungeon crawlers like Diablo.
The environments and enemy types on display in the trailer look quite varied and imaginative, and it appears there will be some substantial role-playing elements in the form of inventory management and loot.
Dungeons had previously been announced only for PC. This new trailer says it will also be coming to “consoles,” implying it may arrive on platforms other than Xbox. The Switch seems like an obvious contender, given Microsoft’s increasing close relationship with Nintendo. Additionally, Microsoft confirmed that Dungeons will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
