Minecraft for PS4 and Xbox One will not feature infinite worlds

Posted on May 9, 2014 AT 03:25am

4J Studios has confirmed that despite having bigger worlds than their last-gen counterparts, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Minecraft will not feature infinite worlds like the PC version.

According to the developer, the worlds can’t be infinite due to save size restrictions on both consoles, but they are “a lot bigger” than what is currently available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

“Working with Sony/Microsoft on world size – not “infinite” due to save size limits, but a lot bigger than PS3/Xbox 360,” 4J wrote in response to a question on Twitter. The developer also mentioned that the DualShock4 touchpad can be used for creative UI navigation on PS4.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has previously stated that the Xbox One version of Minecraft should be available fairly soon. “They’re a full-fledged developer in every sense. They control the release date of that, but I’ll tell people that we’re getting really close,” he said back in March. “I talked with Notch last night, and they’re really excited about the quality.”
