Minecraft: Pocket Edition Update is Coming

Posted on January 8, 2012 AT 01:34pm

THE BUZZ: When Minecraft was ported over to Android and iOS back in November, gamers were delighted yet still slightly disappointed in the direction the port seemed to be going. One of Minecraft’s most popular modes, Survival, had been omitted in mobile edition of the game. According to a blog post by lead designer Daniel Kaplan, that seems to be getting corrected very soon. In the post Daniel explains that his team had a vision for the mobile version of Minecraft to make it ‘more like Minecraft Creative’. According to the Daniel, upon returning from vacation, he and his team talked to users and took feedback from customers and decided they had a made a ‘big’ mistake. The Mojang team has went back and rewritten the code from the ground up and will now include new animals, monsters, and resources. While crafting is said to be a ways off, Mojang seems confident that they are finally on the right path to give gamers what they want out of a Minecraft game.

Daniel and his team are looking to submit it for review February 8, to post Apple’s App Store and the Android Marketplace.

EGM’s TAKE: This is exciting, if for some reason you don’t have a computer that can properly handle the very low system requirements, hopefully you have a phone that can. With less polarity with its big brother, Mojang can make a hit game even bigger. Minecraft: Pocket Edition works surprisingly well for a touch based game, this update is said to squash some bugs and maybe even update some GUI bits as well. Gentleman start your smartphones and keep an eye out for your digital marketplace of choice.
