Mojang announced the Village and Pillage update for Minecraft during Minecon Earth.
The update introduces loads of new villagers to the game that will vary from biome to biome, including the librarian, butcher, leatherworker, and farmer. In addition, the Pillagers will be added to the game. These unfriendly NPCs are out to ruin the lives of the villagers and come armed with a new weapon: crossbows.
Crossbows can also be crafted by players and take longer to use than bows, but do superior damage to balance things out.
“You’ll find a lot more variety in how villages look depending on what biome you’re visiting, too (along with some completely new villages),” the developer added in a blog post. “But enough about what we’re building – we want to see what YOU make with new building materials! That’s why we’re adding – just seven years after it was suggested at the very first Minecon – scaffolding!”
The Village and Pillage update will arrive in early 2019.
Mojang also announced that pandas will be added to Minecraft “in the next few weeks.” More information about these cuddly new additions will be shared closer to launch.
