Shigeru Miyamoto says that Nintendo hasn’t released any specifics about the NX system because of the “idea” behind the system.

“In terms of NX, there’s an idea that we’re working on,” Miyamoto told the Associated Press.

Miyamoto hinted that the NX will do more than simply follow the trend of incremental power increases set by the upcoming upgraded consoles from Sony and Microsoft with the NX, saying that “if it was just a matter of following advancements in technology, things would be coming out a lot quicker.”

Rumors have been flying about just what the secret “idea” behind Nintendo’s mysterious NX might be. We’ve seen patents for controllers that sense objects and detect temperature, pressure, and motion. There is also evidence that the NX will store games on cartridges, similarly to the 3DS, including a trademark filing for Breath of the Wild listing a physical cartridge in addition to a disc.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé recently said that the company will reveal more about the system as we approach its March 2017 release.
