MLB 2K12 Tweaks Perfect Game Challenge

Posted on January 14, 2012 AT 10:42am

THE BUZZ: For the third year in a row 2K Sports is offering $1 million to the first player to pitch a perfect game in their upcoming MLB 2K12, this time with a little twist. This year, instead of simply asking players to record proof of their accomplishment 2K Sports is taking a more hands on approach to the contest. Starting April 4, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 players will be able to enter Perfect Game Challenge mode and try to pitch their perfect game. Players that do will be given a special code for them to enter on 2K’s site. Once entered, 2K Sports will then track those players on a dynamic scoreboard, and allow the top eight players to repeat the mode in hopes improving their standings on the list until the end of April.

What happens next is anyone’s guess, but 2K Sports is sure to fill us in on what has become a very popular promotional tool for their MLB 2K franchise.

EGM’s TAKE: This newly found complication in what was once a nice old school challenge reeks of corporate intervention. We imagine someone somewhere had the thought that players recording themselves while attempting to pitch a perfect game wasn’t emergent enough. Now we have eight player tournaments, dynamic scoreboards, and I’m sure we’ll see a soft drink sponsor or two before all is said and done. Call us old fashion, but we like the idea of propping up our tripod (stack of DVDs), grabbing a bag of something bad to eat and calling out of work for the next three days, trying reach perfection.
