MLG Disqualifies Top Two League of Legends Teams

Major League Gaming has announced that the top two teams of the League of Legends Summer Championships–Curse NA and Team Dignitas, have been stripped of their prizes due to collusion.

League of Legends developer Riot Games are in agreement with MLG about the decision, stripping the finalists of their title and prize money.

An official statement reads: “MLG regrets to announce that we will not be awarding 1st or 2nd Place finishes for the Summer Championship League of Legends Event…This is in clear violation of both the letter and spirit of MLG’s Official Pro Circuit Conduct Rules: ‘competitors may not intentionally Forfeit a Game or conspire to manipulate Rankings or Brackets.”

Both teams apparently played the final game of the championship in an “All Random, All Mid” style which is an unusual choice, but is not against the rules. Fans are currently divided on whether the teams actually broke any rules.
