Monster Hunter: World took home the award for Best Role-Playing Game at last night’s 2018 Game Awards, but what you might have missed was a tease for new content coming to the game.
While accepting the award, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto hinted that fans will be very pleased with an upcoming announcement for the game. According to Tsujimoto via a translator, Capcom will make an announcement in a “few days” that will “make everyone happy.”
We’re not sure what that announcement is, but we have a feeling it’s got something to do with hunting monsters. In all seriousness, Monster Hunter: World just launched its Winter Star Event, which gives players the opportunity to complete timed quests they might have missed from earlier events, as well as the chance to earn Winter tickets that they can spend on new gear and, most importantly, turning their Palicos into snowmen… er, snowcats. The Winter Star Event runs until December 17th, so it’s safe to bet that the announcement will be for whatever’s following that.
One fan on Reddit speculated that the announcement will have something to do with an anniversary event. Considering Monster Hunter: World launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One back in January 2018, that sounds like a pretty safe bet. Another Reddit user predicted that the announcement will have something to do with the upcoming movie, possibly a crossover event where players can earn armor featured in the film. That’s not a bad guess, either. The movie is currently in production and features some common visual themes from World, such as Tony Jaa’s resemblance to that game’s Field Team Leader and the Wildspire Waste as one of its influences as a setting. However, its release is still pretty far out, so it might be a little premature for an in-game event.
Whatever the announcement is, it’s safe to assume that it will come to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, since it’s supposed to “make everyone happy.”
