THE BUZZ: A few details were revealed about Street Fighter X Tekken from an interview at the New York Comic Con last month. Gematsu spoke to Yoshinori Ono, lead producer and asked whether the brawler will run on updated netcode or if it’s entirely new. Ono responded with “Street Fighter X Tekken is using a new, different netcode than the Street Fighter IV series.” Ono then said the differences with the netcode will be demonstrated at a later date. When questioned about whether fans will be better off waiting for a “Super” version of the game a few months down the line Yoshinori Ono answered with “If we decide to create a new version of the game, we will go with the Street Fighter IVseries route, by providing online update patches for the game. So I would say that you don’t really need to worry about a new version of the game coming out. If we choose to update the game, it will be done in the same fashion as Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition”
Lastly, when pressed about the reason for no announcements of a Nintendo 3DS or Wii U version in the works, Ono simply stated that there’s isn’t any particular reason leaving us to believe there is no version for those platforms being made.
EGM’s TAKE: Netcode, specifically for a fighting game should never be out of date, so new netcode is welcome especially if it lowers latency. As for Capcom’s plan to release online updates for the game instead of going the Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 route, that’s good news also. But we’ll believe it once we see it. We’re sure everyone has about fifteen copies of Street Fighter II scattered around their homes suggesting we not be so trusting.
Of course, the last bit of news might lead some to believe that Capcom isn’t showing Nintendo much love on their new consoles, but as most gamers should know by now is that if it plays video games, Capcom will put a Street Fighter on it; and we’ll buy it, because we’re weak, weak people.
