Update: NetherRealm has officially announced that Mortal Kombat X is launching in 2015. No official platforms were offered, but, according to retail listings, it is coming to PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.
“Fuelled by next-gen technology, Mortal Kombat X combines unparalleled, cinematic presentation with dynamic gameplay to create an unprecedented Kombat experience,” reads the official announcement trailer’s description.
The trailer (above) features Scorpion and Sub-Zero battling in a snow covered forest. The pair regularly interact with the background during the fight, suggesting that the game will feature a similar mechanic to the one used in Injustice: Gods Among Us.
Original Story: Amazon U.K. has created listings for “Mortal Kombat X” on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.
The listings (since removed) lack any sort of information, bar an estimated release date of 2015. Mortal Kombat series creator Ed Boon has been cryptically counting down to an announcement that will be happening later today, June 2, when NetherRealm is expected to officially announce the next entry in the franchise.
A poster recently appeared online that featured an X-ray of a broken spine, and the words “Who’s Next?” with an updated Mortal Kombat logo. Boon changed his Twitter profile image and cover photo to match this poster shortly after it became public.
“I don’t suppose there’s anything I can do to make you think we still MIGHT be announcing Injustice 2 in #five days is there…..?” he tweeted later that same day.
