Mother 3 Fan Translation Offer Nintendo Their Script for Free

News of EarthBound’s Wii U Virtual Console release in North America has reinvigorated Mother 3 enthusiasts, and prompted the team behind the Mother 3 Fan Translation to offer their services to Nintendo.

Professional translator Clyde Mandelin, who led the charge on the unofficial Mother 3 fan translation in 2008, says he would “gladly” offer Nintendo Fan Translation’s files for localization—for free.

“I realize that localizing a game this size can cost a lot, so if it’ll help in even the slightest, I’ll gladly offer to let Nintendo use my text translation files for any use at all, completely for free,” Mandelin wrote. “I’ll even edit the files to fit whatever new standards are necessary (content, formatting, memory size, etc.), completely for free. I’ll even retranslate everything from scratch if need be. Just whatever it takes to get an official release out.”

Mandelin is a professional translator for FUNimation who has worked on several notable anime series, including, Dragon Ball, Lupin the 3rd, One Piece, and Trinity Blood.

Released in Japan in 2006 for Game Boy Advance, Mother 3 has never officially been localized for release outside of the island nationdespite very vocal fan demand. Mother 3 is a direct sequel to the SNES cult hit, EarthBound. The title started out as an N64 RPG, EarthBound 64.

Nintendo announced during last week’s Nintendo Direct presentation that EarthBound would be released on the Wii U Virtual Console sometime this year.
