THE BUZZ: In the first VGA reveal of the night, Sony dropped the trailer for The Last of Us, revealing it is a Naughty Dog game.
Naughty Dog has always liked to move on to something new after the third installment of a game, and it appears that’s the direction they are going. We’re going to post these trailers with very little commentary, so we can get them up quickly. Be sure to check them out and tell us what you think.
UPDATE: Sony has sent out a press release, discussing details regarding The Last of Us. The release reads:
“The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague. Abandoned cities are being reclaimed by nature and the remaining survivors are killing each other for food, weapons and whatever they can get their hands on. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave young teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.”
“We are excited to finally unveil The Last of Us, a project the team has been working hard on for some time,” said Evan Wells, Co-President of Naughty Dog. “Naughty Dog’s mission is to change the way people experience videogames. We are confident The Last of Us will take a leap forward in cinematic gaming and storytelling, providing gamers with an experience unlike anything else in the industry.”
EGM’s TAKE: The graphics, though they looked pre-rendered rather than in-engine, were gorgeous. The character models and animations were a step above Uncharted 3. The voice work also sounded top-notch. For a short trailer it was packed with things to study, so be sure to check it out yourself!
