Naughty Dog has said repeatedly that another installment after Uncharted 4 would be “really hard” to pull off, but the game’s creative director, Neil Druckmann, doesn’t seem to mind the idea of another developer picking up the series after Uncharted 4.
Druckmann has now said that, as long as the studio got Uncharted’s tone right, he would actually enjoy playing an Uncharted game made by someone else. “If they made a great game I’d be excited,” he told GamesRadar. “I’d want to play an Uncharted I didn’t work on. It’d be a lot of fun.”
Still, Druckmann said, he wouldn’t want Naughty Dog to be completely hands-off with the project. “Obviously we would have a big part in it as the creators of the franchise,” he said. “We’d just want to make sure they get the essence of it right.”
However, Druckmann said that he would be equally fine with making Uncharted 4 the last installment in the series if they couldn’t find the right development team. “If there’s a studio that can do that, then great. If not, then it’s okay that this is the last one.”
The PlayStation 4–exclusive Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, will release on May 10th.
