NBA 2K14 Dev Diary Explores Improved AI, Challenge to Attacking the Rim

Posted on September 19, 2013 AT 11:14am

2K Sports released a developer diary for NBA 2K14 in which various designers and producers discuss what issues from NBA 2K13 were addressed and improved for the new installment.

“In a year where a new generation of consoles are coming out, a lot of people may be expecting, you know, maybe this’ll just be a minor upgrade to 2K14,” lead gameplay designer Mike Wang says in the video. “We really just wanted to stomp that right away and make sure that everyone underestood that NBA 2K14 was going to be a fully upgraded game.”

According to senior producer Rob Jones, notable tweaks include improved AI, and a balanced offense/defense relationship. Wang also points out that they addressed fan complaints that it was too easy to attack the rim in NBA 2K13, so the developers designed the ball to feel more “tangible” for better gripping so that players can’t just move anywhere.

NBA 2K14 launches on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 October 1 in North America, October 4 in Europe. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will launch alongside the consoles on November 15 (November 29 in Europe) and November 22 respectively.
