Today’s Nintendo Direct festivities included the surprise release of a previously unannounced Wii U game, NES Remix.
The downloadable titles incorporates gameplay from 16 different NES classics, including Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Excitebike. As Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed during the presentation, some stages are just brief snippets designed to “highlight some of the best parts of the original titles” while others “have been altered to now include elements to make them feel brand new,” like playing as Link in Donkey Kong or completing a Mario stage where the platforms sporadically turn invisible.
The game also features Miiverse support, allowing you to post your times and scores for the world to see. Also included are a set of collectible stamps similar to those introduced in Super Mario 3D World as a way of chronicling your accomplishments.
NES Remix is available now on the Wii U eShop for $15.
