The team don’t want to get stuck developing Mortal Kombat forever, and after getting a taste with Batman: Arkham City Lockdown they are ready to try new things.
“I would be surprised if Warner Bros. and us never released another Mortal Kombat game again. We don’t have a title to announce, but if this last one sold over 3 million and counting, there’s a certain amount of assumption that we’d consider doing another Mortal Kombat game,” said Studio Head Ed Boon. ”But at the same time, we want our studio to do more than just make Mortal Kombat games. We love making them but we also want to do different types of games. Different genres, different IPs.”
EGM’s TAKE: After the success of Mortal Kombat the studio could probably afford to try out new genres and areas without too much risk, however Warner Bros. is obviously going to come a callin’ at some point looking for a follow up to last year’s blockbuster. The team should take this downtime to test out new ideas and decide on their future before they get stuck in a development cycle again. The Mortal Kombat series is too successful to ever be left alone, plus many fans will be looking forward to the next entry. when that will happen though is anyone’s guess.
