Neverwinter coming to Xbox One in 2015

Posted on July 30, 2014 AT 07:15am

Perfect World’s free-to-play MMORPG Neverwinter is making the jump to Xbox One in China later this year, followed by a worldwide release in the first half of 2015.

According to Neverwinter’s lead producer, Andy Velasquez (via IGN), the console version will feature pretty much all of the content found in the PC version. ”All the same races, all the same classes, all the same maps. The content will be there, with some minor exceptions,” he said.

“Since we launched on PC, we’ve added some bits to the endgame, and then we added another module which had another campaign at the endgame. So we’ll probably stagger those releases [in the console version].”

On console the game will abandon the PC version’s floating menus in favor of a “tray” system, with abilities laid out like a controller across the bottom of the screen—presumably similar to how Final Fantasy XIV does it. Abilities can be bound to controller buttons and there’s the option to switch between multiple sets of layouts by pressing LB.

“From the beginning, we always received feedback that this would be great with a controller, and we even have a bunch of PC users who, using just a 360 controller, have come up with keybind files,” Velasquez said. “I basically just plugged a controller into my PC and messed around with different configurations. At this point now, I can’t stand playing our game with a mouse and keyboard. I actually like playing it with a controller; it just feels better.”

Velasquez finished by confirming that the PC and Xbox One versions will not support cross-play. There was no mention of a PlayStation 4 version being in development.
