New 1UP glitch discovered in Super Mario Bros. almost 30 years after launch

Posted on June 18, 2014 AT 02:05pm

Almost 30 years after its 1985 launch on NES, someone discovered a new 1UP glitch in Super Mario Bros.

As detailed by Retrocollect, the near 1UP treasure trove is found by first taking Player One’s Mario to the second level and committing suicide. Player Two, as Luigi, must then get all the way to World 5-2 and raise the hidden beanstalk midway through the level. While dangling from the stalk, Luigi needs to be clipped off by one of the nearby Hammer Bros. so that Player One and Mario can jump back to the fray. For whatever reason, this prompts the World 5-2 beanstalk to start growing in World 1-2, where Mario can juggle a pair of Buzzy Beetle shells to rack up a storm of 1UPs.

You can see the whole process in action in the video posted above.
