Over on the NeoGAF message forum, a few members noticed something unusual about the newest version of Angry Birds released via Sony’s Minis section.

The game, originally published to Minis by publisher Chillingo, has now switched over to the game’s actual developer Rovio. Unfortunately, this switch means that the two versions of the game – the previous 1.03 version, and the new 2.02 version – aren’t considered the same game.

The older version has been taken down from the PlayStation Store, but for anybody who purchased that version, you won’t be able to upgrade to the new version as they’re considered different games. So, while the new version has a number of fixes with it, including fixes to the framerate problems the older version had, if you have that older version and want the new, better version, you’ll have to buy the game again.

Also, Rovio’s description on the PlayStation Store is rather deceptive in terms of what the game features. The description says that Angry Birds Minis includes features like “leaderboards, trophies, [and] Facebook and Twitter integration,” options which aren’t available to Minis titles. That description may be for an upcoming PS3 version of Angry Birds, but it is still misleading as to what you’ll get in the Minis version.

Finally, save data from the older version of Angry Birds Minis won’t work with the new version.
