New characters, two-player details announced for Hyrule Warriors [update: trailer]

Posted on June 10, 2014 AT 09:38am

During their E3 Nintendo Direct this morning, Nintendo and Tecmo Koei announced some additional details on who you’ll be playing as in Hyrule Warriors, and how players will be playing together locally.

First, the additions: the legendary princess Zelda, and Midna, one of the main characters from 2006’s The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. These two additions point to something that Hyrule Warriors will be bringing to Zelda fans: the ability to play as familiar faces that aren’t normally playable in other Zelda entires.

In addition to that, a new detail was revealed about how two-player local multiplayer would work: one player will use the Wii U GamePad, with a second playing on the TV. Indeed, there will be no split screen—the idea is to let both players really have a full feeling for the action and exploration in the game fully on their own.
