New Dev Diary for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified Explores Story Design, Focus

Posted on August 6, 2013 AT 02:47pm

In a new developer diary for 2K Marin’s The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, lead narrative designer Erik Caponi talks about the appeal of merging the XCOM universe with a 1960′s setting and discusses.

“The story through any game is going to change throughout the process of making it,” Caponi says in the video. “From 2010 to 2013, it [The Bureau's story] was kind … knocked down to the ground and built back up at a structural level several times, but what has stayed the same is largely the characters. Carter has always been part of the story, he’s always been our main character, because it’s a very personal story. We’re telling the story of Carter’s emotional arc throughout this invasion—getting into his head and seeing how he reacts to the events going on around him.”

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified hits PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on August 20 in North America, August 23 in Europe.
