There’s no Master Chief to be seen here, but the latest trailer for Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn is showing some character development for the UNSC’s rookie crew. Hooray, shaved heads for everyone!

Aside from the huge military overtones, the joint production between 343 Industries and Microsoft Studios is attempting to give some depth to Halo 4‘s story with the live-action series, as shown here.

In the two-minute trailer, characters that will play minor roles in the upcoming episodes describe why they’re joining the UNSC, and why they’re suited for the armor (or not, as one recruit states cryptically).

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn debuts on October 5, 2012—and hopefully, the sets get a little more cheery. If you’re more keen on the actual video game, Halo 4 will hit the Xbox 360 a month later on November 6th.
