New Mario Kart 8 trailer reveals the return of Rainbow Road, familiar racers

Posted on April 3, 2014 AT 10:47am

The latest trailer for Mario Kart 8 heralds the return of Rainbow Road and other remixed tracks from previous installments.

Nintendo revealed that the eighth installment of their super-popular kart racer franchise will feature 16 new courses and 16 remixed ones, including Toad’s Turnpike and Moo Moo Meadows. As before, Mario Kart 8 will support 12-person online multiplayer and, of course, four-player local.

New items being introduced in Mario Kart 8 include the Piranha Plant, which attaches itself to the front of a player’s kart and gobbles up hazards such as banana peels and thrown shells, and the Boomerang Flower, which can be thrown ahead or back up to three times to stun other players.

Mario Kart 8 rides onto Wii U May 30.
