New Marvel's Spider-Man story trailer debuts Silver Sable, new suit

The latest Marvel’s Spider-Man trailer, which recently debuted at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, has piled on yet another character from the web-head’s roster of on-again, off-again allies.

The trailer, which debuted at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, includes a bunch of new information about the story, including the fact that mercenary Silver Sable will play a role in the highly anticipated superhero game.

In the trailer, New York City mayor Norman Osborn (better known as the supervillain Green Goblin, though we’re not sure he’ll make it to that point in the first game) tries to rein in the chaos caused by the breakout at RAFT by hiring Silver Sable International, a group of mercenaries with a particular penchant for taking on the super-powered, no matter if they’re good or bad. However, Osborn has a particular instruction for Silver Sable and her entourage: take out Spider-Man (and some villains if she has the time).

Osborn’s loyalties are difficult to decipher from the latest trailer. He obviously knows Peter Parker, and the way the trailer is edited makes it seem like Osborn knows Parker’s secret identity. But he also wants Spider-Man killed. Maybe he really does believe that Spider-Man is a menace to the Big Apple, but it’s also possible that Osborn has deeper ties to the Sinister Six than we realize. Electro and co.’s new suits definitely seem to share that hi-tech Oscorp flair.

Mary-Jane Watson and Miles Morales are also given a decent amount of screen time in the trailer as Spidey’s civilian sidekicks. During the trailer, you can spot MJ investigating the Inner Demons, Mister Negative’s gang, possibly giving us our first real glimpse at what the stealthy gameplay in MJ parts of the game will look like. Miles’ role as a part of the Spider-crew is a little less clear, as is whether or not he knows Spider-Man’s true identity. (Mary-Jane is fully in the loop this time around.)

What wasn’t revealed in the trailer is the identity of mysterious villain from the E3 2018 trailer. Rhino’s voice actor might have possibly spilled the beans about Doc Ock showing up as the main baddie, but this new trailer does confirm that Parker has a relationship with Osborn, so it’s possible we might actually see a glimpse of Green Goblin after all.

Along with the new story trailer, developer Insomniac Games also finally debuted the third pre-order bonus suit. Designed by artist Adi Granov, the Velocity Suit trades in Spidey’s iconic webbing for a sleek, glow-in-the-dark motif that, if we had to guess, will probably give Spider-Man a speed boost. Thankfully, the suit isn’t limited to pre-order, as players will have an opportunity to earn all three in-game as well.

Marvel’s Spider-Man launches September 7th for PlayStation 4.
