New mechanics for M98B, G3A1 losing accuracy, FAMAS changes, more upcoming BF3 updates

THE BUZZ: It’s another round of comments on upcoming Battlefield 3 updates from DICE’s Alan Kertz.

EGM’s TAKE: Alan Kertz has a lot of great things to say about the regular process of updates to Battlefield 3, so every now and then we like to take a few moments to cover some of the things he’s mentioned. So, here’s another round of that!

When asked if the G3A1 is losing 100% first shot accuracy when ADS using heavy barrel: “It’s still incredibly accurate, the 100% accuracy while aimed and moving was a bit too much.”

When asked if DICE would be decreasing cap time and/or increasing ticket bleed in CQ: “No. We’re happy with both of those where they are.”

In general, taking about the FAMAS: “The supposed FAMAS ‘buff’ is anything but, the FAMAS will pull to the side when shooting, a behavior much more difficult to control.”

And then, in response to that, when asked if the foregrip would be the only under-barrel attachment getting tweaked for the FAMAS: “No, the bipod is getting significantly improved.”

When asked if the G3A3 will be receiving a buff in the next patch: “Aye. 34-22 damage. Up from 30-20 now.”

When discussing the difference in rate of fire between Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 3: “The BF2 engine only allowed for 900 or 600 rpm. Most guns got 900.”

In general, talking about the M98B: “Found a way to keep 95 damage on the M98B without making it OP.”

And then, in response to that, when asked what makes a bolt gun with a 5-round mag so OP that it needs nerfing: “New mechanics. But it wasn’t ever a nerf and now it won’t look that way either.”

And finally, for fun, when asked whose “bright idea” it was to have grenades shoot out of an automatic shotgun (USAS w/frags): “Mine. You’re welcome.”
