New Modern Warfare 3 Spec Ops mode will push players to the limit

THE BUZZ: Along with the standard mission oriented co-op Spec Ops, the new Survival mode, CoD’s take on Horde mode, will push you and a friend over the edge and test your shooting skills like you’ve never seen.

WHAT WE KNOW: Survival mode serves as MW3’s Horde mode, and will pit an ever-changing cast of enemies at you to insure that the experience is never the same twice, even when replaying levels, whether alone or with a friend. There is also an item purchasing system between rounds to restock ammo or equip better weapons or armor.

WHAT IT MEANS: From what I saw with my hands on with this mode, it definitely has some interesting twists to it from other Horde modes. Being able to buy upgrades and armor between rounds is critical as the difficulty in MW3’s Survival Mode ramps up like no other as even the most grizzled CoD veterans couldn’t make it past the sixth or seventh round. It is noteworthy to see if the final version is toned down at all to lengthen the experience, but even if not, the chance to earn XP towards your profile in it will draw more single-player oriented gamers towards it and really push the mode to its limits. I think this quote we got from Infinity Ward Creative Strategist Robert Bowling on the mode sums up Spec Ops: Survival pretty well: “You’re seeing kamikaze dogs, kamikaze infantry, chemical agents, juggernauts, juggernauts with riot shields, enemy air support, and more. It’s so much a different experience and what I love about it is that it blurs the lines between what is a competitive multiplayer experience and co-op multiplayer experience and it makes experiences that were typically only reserved for that super hardcore competitive multiplayer guy accessible to the single player guy.” Any way you look at it, the only words that come to mind with this mode is brutal, action-packed, and lots of fun.
