Neverwinter, Cryptic Studios’ D&D-based free-to-play MMORPG, will gain its fourth free expansion, Tyranny of Dragons, on August 14, publisher Perfect World Entertainment announced.

Tyranny of Dragons will bridge the Neverwinter lore and D&D tabletop lore. The storyline revolves around the Cult of the Dragon, an evil group seeking to create undead dragons in an effort to fulfill an ancient prophecy. Wizards of the Coast plans on unraveling the storyline through “serialized entertainment offerings” that span the Neverwinter expansion and two new tabletop games.

The Forgotten Realms–set free-to-play MMO Neverwinter launched on Windows PC last summer. The game’s third module, Curse of Icewind Dale, went live last week, introducing new PvP and PvE campaigns, quest lines, Heroic Encounters, and gear.
