Overwatch‘s newest hero has been revealed sooner than anticipated, with trailers showing off both the origin story and abilities of the ex-Talon combat medic, Baptiste.

Baptiste was first mentioned in a recent teaser document that followed the story of a Talon squad sent out to hunt him down. This teaser gave fans an idea of Baptiste’s capabilities, mentioning that he was a combat medic with particularly good aim. A few more teasers were expected to drop before the character was officially announced, but Blizzard apparently didn’t feel like waiting.

According to the origin story trailer below, Baptiste was orphaned by the Omnic Wars, before soon being drafted into the forces of Talon, Overwatch‘s rival agency. After slowly realizing Talon’s intentions are unjust, however, Baptiste defected and is now operating on his own.

As for Baptiste’s abilities, a second trailer showcases what the Support hero brings to the fight. His main weapon is the Biotic Launcher, which can fire accurate three-round bursts as a primary fire, while launching healing grenades as a secondary (cannot heal himself). His first ability is the Regenerative Burst, which gives an over-time surge of healing to nearby allies, while his passive Exo-Boots ability allows him to charge a jump and bound over obstacles.

Baptiste’s second ability is where things get a little crazier. His Immortality Field ability throws up a generator that prevents any ally in its range from dying. They can still lose most of their health, but 20 percent will be unbreakable as long as they’re within the field. The generator can be destroyed, however, preventing Baptiste’s team from simply camping within it.

The healer’s Ultimate ability is equally impressive. Called the Amplification Matrix, Baptiste can place it down with an action similar to placing down Mei’s Ice Wall. This transparent field doubles the effectiveness of any friendly projectiles passing through it, which includes both damage and healing.

Baptiste is now live on Overwatch‘s public test region, with a full release expected in two or three weeks.
