Valve has issued a statement confirming that the new content announced for PAYDAY: The Heist should not be considered a prequel to Left 4 Dead.
The confusion began after PAYDAY developer Overkill revealed a trailer showcasing new content for the bank heist game set in a fictional hospital, the same hospital that is featured in Left 4 Dead. Overkill even mentioned the game in the video’s description: ”Have you ever wondered how the Left 4 Dead series began? It started with a heist!”
This led many fans to automatically assume that the new DLC will be a prequel to the Left 4 Dead series, sadly this isn’t the case. Valve’s Chet Faliszek has claimed the blurb was written “by some over-excited marketing guys.”
“This is a 100 per cent Overkill-made mission for PAYDAY: The Heist simply set in No Mercy hospital from the Left 4 Dead series,” he told Kotaku. ”It is not telling the origins of the Infection and is not canon.”
“There is a little cameo from one of the L4D characters and a fun little Easter-egg with a payoff later in Left 4 Dead. Just us having some fun with a studio we are friends with and who have also made a great co-op game,” he added.
