The Pokémon Company is developing a new Pokémon title starring Pikachu, Gematsu reports.
According to a description on the NHK website for Pokémon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara’s upcoming appearance on Japanese TV show NHK Professional: Shigoto no Ryuugi—a television series that highlights various professions and what they entail—work began on the new Pikachu game this summer.
“This summer, Ishihara started development on a never before seen game,” reads NHK’s description. “It’s a new game featuring the very popular character Pikachu in a bold way. There is concern, however, that if it’s bad the long loved character would lose popularity in the blink of an eye.”
Ishihara is set to appear on NHK October 28, so expect more details to emerge then.
Meanwhile, the next proper installment of the Pokémon franchise, Pokémon X and Y, will launch later this week, on Saturday, October 12 worldwide. You can check out Ray’s review to see how the latest duo of Pokémon games stand up.
