New Pokemon Game May Be a Bridge Too Far

THE BUZZ: The Pokemon Company and Koei have announced Pokemon+Nobunaga’s Ambition for the original DS.
Those under 35 might be asking, what is Nobunga’s Ambition? For a quick explanation, it is a turn-based strategy/role-playing/simulation series developed by Koei, which dates all the back to 1983 and has enjoyed quite a big success in Japan and the U.S. An official site for this mysterious title has just launched and a debut trailer can be found below.
EGM’s TAKE: There are some things in life which can’t be ignored, Pokemon played a major role in many people’s childhoods and as such we have become very protective about what happens to it as a franchise. Pokemon Pinball was forgiven, even Rumble could be excused, but this is something that could be described as just plain ridiculous. Nobunaga’s Ambition is a serious game steeped in historical meaning and education, whereas Pokemon is a light hearted, child orientated piece of entertainment. These two should never cross paths, and we fear the results.
