THE BUZZ: Massively successful indie hit Minecraft is coming to Xbox 360s everywhere in Spring 2012, and today Microsoft released new screenshots and video for the game in conjunction with the opening of MineCon.
EGM’s TAKE: Putting Minecraft on the Xbox 360 makes sense, as the game has deep roots in the world of PC gaming. At the same time, Microsoft’s policies for the Xbox 360 make it one of the least-friendly platforms on which to release games that require a regular series of updates and changes. While this XBLA release of Minecraft will no doubt contain much of the core gameplay elements upon its release, it’ll no doubt quickly fall behind the PC version and its constant receiving of new features, creatures, and building options. And, of course, there’s the push for adding “adventure” aspects to Minecraft, something the XBLA release could end up missing out on.
It’s also somewhat amusing that Minecraft is coming to the one gaming platform that is currently rampant with Minecraft clones. Will those games still be around in the Xbox Indies section once the official game launches?
