The Aliens franchise has seen its share of good—and not so good—games based upon it. Soon, SEGA and Gearbox Software will try to put another check in the “good” column with Aliens: Colonial Marines—and they’ve released a new batch of screenshots showing that effort off.

As with any game, final judgement of what’s being done here will wait until we’ve got the finished product in our hands. From what I’ve had a chance to play so far, however, I’m very hopeful. Gearbox seems to really understand how to capture the chaos and terror of being pitted against hordes of Hollywood’s favorite xenomorphs—concepts that also spill over into Colonial Marines‘ multiplayer mode.

Aliens: Colonial Marines hits for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC in February 2013.
