Ubisoft has released a new trailer for Splinter Cell: Blacklist, a franchise installment that we’ve openly questioned for giving Sam Fisher a few too many options to kill. As it turns out, that’s entirely the point.
As narrated by the lead spy himself, the whole purpose of the Fifth Freedom is to take the gloves off, leaving him able to maim and assault his target by any means necessary.
Apparently, that includes not-so-stealthy tactics like missile strikes.
What’s interesting about the trailer is the variety shown in missions, which includes high-tech infiltration, both giving and withstanding torture techniques, plus recusing hostages and vital personnel.
Check out the full trailer below, which also features a lot of voiceover work by actor Eric Johnson, who’s taking over for series veteran Michael Ironside.
We can’t judge the shift just from the short trailer, but it’s a jarring change, nonetheless. Johnson definitely doesn’t sound anything like Ironside, and by the inflections in his delivery, it doesn’t sound like he’s trying to mimic him, either.
