The New Super Luigi U DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U will tweak all 82 levels by making them shorter, but harder.
Nintendo general manager of EAD Software Development Takashi Tezuka, talking to Polygon at E3, described how his team wanted to create downloadable content for New Super Mario Bros. U that would give players the most bang for their buck.
“Most people think of downloadable content as just an add-on to a game—in Japanese you say ‘add-on content,'” he said. “But New Super Luigi U is such a large-scale thing—it’s like a completely different game. It was our idea to change what DLC is.”
New Super Luigi U will be available on the Nintendo eShop in June. A retail release will follow in August.
