New Tetris Movie Trailer Looks Way Better Than That Other Tetris Movie Trailer

One would think there are some video game franchises that no movie studio would ever touch. After all, some ideas just don’t really lend themselves to the big screen. Well, we can admit when we’re wrong. Tetris would be a good summer blockbuster if produced, filmed, and edited in just the right way.
Take this fan-made made “official” trailer for Tetris, from filmmaker Warialasky, which treats the Tetris blocks as some kind of weird phenomenon from who-knows-where. There’s no explanation for it. There’s no justifying it. It’s just there, and it’s causing trouble on a worldwide scale.
Moreover, there’s so many answered questions. What is Tetris? Can it be stopped? Where did it come from? Why does the main character have a gun? Whatever the answers are, that’s the good kind of mystery.
Now, compare that with this older Tetris movie trailer, which turns the puzzle game into some kind of deathmatch, Running Man-style sport. That’s not a bad idea, but it does sounds exactly like something a Hollywood executive with no knowledge of video games would suggest to a director with an entirely too-generous budget.
Ah, we certainly can dream. Hopefully, those dreams stay dreams and no one actually tries making them into two-hour films.
