THE BUZZ: Character customization has become a big part of the SoulCalibur franchise, and the next chapter—SoulCalibur V—looks to be giving players an even wider array of options.
In this comical new video by Namco Bandai, SoulCalibur V producer Hisaharu Tago guides lowly custom character Villager A through the adventures that await players in crafting their own personalized creations. Above previous versions, players will have new options such as special accessories that can be positioned anywhere on the character models, graphical elements that can be layered, the ability to specifically color weapon effects, and much more.
EGM’s TAKE: I’m a big fan of character creators, so I love seeing all of the new options that the SoulCalibur team will be providing. My gripe with this aspect of SoulCalibur IV, however, was how much single-player playtime had to go into unlocking all of the different options for the character creator. I found myself getting rather worn out on the game, and at that point I had only unlocked around 1/3rd of the items.
Hopefully with SoulCalibur V, players won’t have to spend so much time simply to be able to make the characters they want to create (and then take online to pit against others).
