New WWE ’13 Trailer Hypes The Legendary ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin

Posted on August 22, 2012 AT 12:54pm

For pro wrestling fans, the Attitude Era was the golden age of wrestling, and “Stone Cold” Steven Austin was arguably the biggest star of the era. THQ’s newest trailer for WWE ’13 pays a great deal of credit to the Texas Rattlesnake and touts some features.

As shown in the footage, the Attitude Era is broken up into the different campaigns, each one covering the career of the biggest superstars in the Monday Night Wars:

  • Rise of D-X (Triple H and Shawn Michaels)
  • Austin 3:16 (Steve Austin)
  • Brothers of Destruction (Undertaker and Kane)
  • The Great One (The Rock)
  • Mankind (Mick Foley)

Interestingly enough, an entire section of the Attitude Era is devoted to WrestleMania XV, where Stone Cold toppled The Rock to win the WWF Championship.

However, expect to see a lot of history rewritten.

For instance, don’t expect to see the “Rise of D-X” storyline including former member Chyna, several missing WWE Divas, and you’ll most likely never hear a single “Holy Shit!” chant in the entire game.

As cool as it all looks, it’s still a bit weird to see “WWE” plastered on all the in-game content, rather than “WWF”, not to mention the several other concessions that were made for the company’s PG rating. Hopefully, there’s a maturity toggle for all the blood, cursing, and rampant debauchery that the Attitude Era was known for.
