A new trailer for the upcoming XCOM: Enemy Unknown Expansion, Enemy Within, provides a narrative overview of the title’s chief new mechanic: biological and cybernetic augmentation for soldiers.

What the trailer (embedded below) is all about, in a word, is transhumanism. I’m hesitant to describe it as XCOM going cyberpunk, since it has none of the tonal elements required to qualify as cyberpunk, but it does have that same transhuman aspect going for it. This manifests in the gameplay by way of new powers and skills for soldiers, which will be used across roughly 40 new maps in the expansion.
