Next Ace Attorney game set in Meiji-era Japan, stars Phoenix Wright’s ancestor

Posted on April 22, 2014 AT 02:30pm

The next Ace Attorney game for 3DS will star Phoenix Wright’s Meiji era (1868 – 1912) ancestor, leaked pages from the next issue of Famitsu magazine reveal.

Said sword-wielding ancestor is named Naruhodou Ryuunosuke, who is described—according to reported translations of the text—as being as passionate about justice as Phoenix and, perhaps, fearless to a fault.

The new Ace Attorney game also marks the return of series creator Shu Takumi, who briefly stepped away from the franchise to focus on 2012’s Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, leaving Takeshi Yamazaki and Yasuhiro Seto to helm last year’s Dual Destinies.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata mentioned in February’s Japan-only Nintendo Director that a new Ace Attorney was in the works, but did not share any details pertaining to it.
