Work is currently underway on the next Dragon Quest game at Square Enix, series creator Yuji Horii confirmed during the Niconico Super Conference 3 in Chiba (as reported by Game Jouhou).
Niconico Super Conference 3 was a live event assembled by Nico Nico Douga, a streaming video website best described, according to Eric, as the Japanese equivalent of YouTube.
Game Jouhou’s report, translated by Gematsu, points out that Horii did not specifically mention a number attributed to this new Dragon Quest, and upon bringing up the game’s existence was met by disapproving looks from producer Yosuke Saito and chief planner Anzai Takashi.
The last entry in the series, Dragon Quest X, debuted on Wii in Japan in 2012, then later came to Wii U and Windows PC in 2013. The tenth installment took Dragon Quest beyond single-player into the realm of MMOs, but never saw release outside of Japan.
