Next-Gen Unreal Engine Requires 10 Times More Power Than an Xbox 360

THE BUZZ: Epic’s Tim Sweeney, creator of the Unreal Engine, has said that the next-gen Samaritan demo that the company showed off last year requires ten times the power of an Xbox 360 to run.
Sweeney told audiences at DICE yesterday that the current Xbox 360 hardware is capable of producing .25 terraFLOPS, but the demo requires a whopping 2.5 terraFLOPS to run. Epic revealed last week that they plan on showing off the Unreal Engine 4 later this year and that it is currently running on platforms that they are currently “unable to name.”
EGM’s TAKE: If the Samaritan demo is even a hint at what the Unreal Engine 4 will be capable of then we can’t wait for the the next generation to get here. The problem we see is how Microsoft or Sony can possibly fit that much power into a home console, it’s almost impossible to imagine that the next gen could be ten times more powerful. Please Microsoft and Sony, put us out of our long, drawn out, misery already and reveal what you’ve been hiding all these years. The time for the next generation leap is upon us, it all comes down to when they pull the switch.
