Nintendo is set to discontinue production of the Nintendo 3DS XL model in Japan soon, according to the official Japanese website.

The 3DS XL section of the website (via Siliconera) features a note that reads ?ending production soon.? The original 3DS model will remain in production. Following this, the only way to get a 3DS XL will be to go with the New Nintendo 3DS XL model, which is currently the best-selling 3DS model in Japan.

The “New” 3DS and 3DS XL models feature a ?C-Button,? modeled after the C-stick from the GameCube controller, new XL and XR shoulder buttons, a micro USB slot, built-in NFC reader technology, and a more powerful CPU.

There’s currently no release date for these models in North America and Europe.
