Nintendo Japan Ceases Wii Production

Nintendo Japan has officially ceased production of the original Wii console, according to a post on the company’s official website.

At the beginning of the month a message on the official website read, ”manufacturing is scheduled to end soon.” That message has now been updated to  ”manufacturing has ended,” meaning that once the remaining Wii consoles on the market sell out there will be no more new stock.

Back in June, Nintendo announced that the Wii had sold 100 million units worldwide, making it the company’s best-selling console ever, and third best-selling device behind the Game Boy and Nintendo DS.
