Nintendo Offers Incentives For Digital Version Of New Super Mario Bros. 2

Nintendo of Japan is sweeting the pot for 3DS owners who want to go “green” with upcoming titles, offering a collection of extra gifts for those who buy the digital version of certain games as opposed to the full retail package. As part of a new promotional push, from August onward, 3DS games and Wii U games (?) will be buyable on their own eShops.

Anyone in Japan who picks up a copy of New Super Mario Bros. 2 or Demon Training (the new “Dr. Kawashima” brain teaser) by digital means get access to a double amount of Nintendo Club Points, plus a free download of Donkey Kong for Virutal Console.

That’s a pretty small bargaining chip to push a digital copy, though, and in the case of a free game, it seems like it would make more sense to offer a selection of title to choose from, just in case you already have Donkey Kong stored in your hard drive.

But is it more convenient to have a physical game to trade-in to a retailer when you’ve exhausted your time with it?

Also, what if you’re the type who likes to have a collection of games stacked in your living area?

According to Official Nintendo UK, buying both games at once also nets you an extra 20 Club Nintendo Points on top of the 40 Japanese buyers would be getting normally, which can be spent on exclusive Club Nintendo goodies. If that’s the model for all future digital purposes, will that be enough to entice DLC buys if the program is spread to North America and the UK?
