THE BUZZ: Nintendo has issued a statement in response to reports claiming that Wii U is weaker graphically then the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Development sources have claimed that the Wii U lacks in graphical power and is actually weaker than current-gen systems, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A Nintendo of America spokesperson issued this statement to Digital Trends:

“We do not focus on technology specs. We understand that people like to dissect graphics and processing power, but the experience of playing will always be more important than raw numbers.”

EGM’s TAKE: To us this sounds like Nintendo admitting that the console lacks the raw power to compete against current-gen consoles in terms of graphical power, however so did the Wii and it managed to out perform everyone’s expectations. The problem Nintendo has this time around is that the new controller may not offer the same leap forward as the Wii remote did. This will make it hard to convince impulse buyers and current owners to upgrade to the new console. Many were interested in the Wii U as it was believed to have superior graphical power to current consoles, if this turns out to be false it could really hurt Nintendo.
